Matilda, Les Mis, Mean Girls and others announce extension

Whilst September may feel bleak, what with the number of shows closing this month, we're excited to announce that a handful of some of London's top shows have extended their West End runs.

Having celebrated their 10 Year Gala Performance last night, The Play That Goes Wrong have today announced their new booking period which will run until February 2026. Beginning life as a fringe show above a pub, The Play That Goes Wrong is a comedy play parodying murder mysteries and the student theatre companies that often stage them. Delivered with love for their source material and boundless heart, The Play That Goes Wrong is a hilarious farce from Mischief Theatre currently playing at the Duchess Theatre with tickets available here.

Also hosting celebrations yesterday, as they welcomed their new cast to the school gates, was Matilda the Musical who too have announced an extension. Written by Australian composer and performer, and first performed at the RSC, Matilda the Musical adapts Roald Dahl’s classic book of a young girl with the ability to change the world, just with her mind. Currently performing at the Cambridge Theatre in Covent Garden, Matilda the Musical will continue to play through until 24th May 2026 and tickets can be found here.

Mean Girls have also announced an extension to their current run at the Savoy Theatre this week. Based on the hit teen film, and penned by same writer Tina Fey, Mean Girls is a comedy musical that follows Kady Heron as she moves from being home-schooled in Africa to high school in North America. Booking until 4th April 2025, tickets for Mean Girls are available here.

For another comedy play, Fawlty Towers is set to extend their booking dates into early next year. The play is based on John Cleese’s hit TV show and has played to near sell-out audiences every night, containing scenes from the classic series. Booking now until 4th January you can grab your tickets for this hit comedy here.

If you’re in the mood for something more serious, Witness for the Prosecution have recently announced their extension along with new cast members heading to the courtroom. Extending until 28th September 2025, the new cast are set to take over later this month. Like The Mousetrap, Witness for the Prosecution is a classic Agatha Christie murder mystery, except this time you’re able to immerse yourself directly in the action when you head to London County Hall. Tickets, which start from £17.40, can be found here.

Another show which has announced further cast members joining the production is Lin Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton. Telling the story of the founding fathers of America, through hip-hop and R&B music, Hamilton has been a global sensation winning multiple awards as well as streaming on Disney+. The West End production will now book until 27 September 2025 with tickets available here.

Much like The Play That Goes Wrong, another show that began life as a fringe piece is The Choir of Man who have also announced an extension. The Choir of Man is a jukebox musical that talks of masculinity, humanity, and community with music by Adele, Katy Perry, and F.U.N. New cast members take over from 17th September, with the show booking until 29th December 2024. Tickets can be purchased here.

And last, but of course not least, the West End’s longest running musical Les Miserables have announced their extension too. Booking until 6th September (and we expect until the end of time) Les Miserables is the world-famous Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg musical based on the novel by Victor Hugo. Selling out multi-international tours, and about to begin a World Arena Tour starring Alfie Boe and Michael Ball, Les Miserables is a classic that has stood the test of time and time again. Tickets for Les Miserables are available here.
